Ninety-Five Degrees in the Shade...

Can you tell I'm missing Girls Aloud? Seriously, no one here knows who they are. It's disgusting. There is some awareness of Cheryl though so not all is lost. She is beautiful. Sigh. Sorry, I was in a Cheryl coma for a moment there.
Ugh, I really should have SHUT MY MOUTH about the weather. It's so hot here, beautiful, but SO hot. And the best part is, my flatmate Jenny tells me it's supposed to 'rain like holy hell' this evening. You can't even rely on it staying sunny - I have to carry an umbrella, SPF 55 cream and three pairs of shoes everywhere I go. And I'm supposed to be going to see a band called Care Bears on Fire at Cake Shop so I'm hoping it holds off until I'm home. The Cake Shop is amazing. Bands? Check, Cake? Check. Records? Check. Hot boys? Check. There is no bad there.
Not to say there is no bad in New York at all, I just got a chicken caesar salad only to discover there was no dressing. Which actually just makes it a chicken salad, people. And, yes, it is hot but does that mean you need to turn your air conditioning up to 'arctic'? Ooh, and I bought Tetley tea bags and Dairy Milk but I am afraid to try either in case they are terrible.
Other fun things to tell you... OH! I went to a party on Saturday night and they had a KEG! Seriously! Like in FILMS! And boys did keg stands while everyone else counted and everything. It was all very exciting. Although we were on this roof terrace and I could see the Brooklyn Bridge all lit up and it was beautiful and all I could think about was a) why isn't Alex here and b) what if the monster from Cloverfield is real?
I am a complex girl, I know.
But before I could worry about it too much, I had to pull Jenny down from a keg stand and hold her hair back while she threw up over the balcony. After which we more or less had to leave.
Oh dear. Well, it makes a change from the Sunday night Come Dine with Me marathon. Although I do miss that. And Malteasers. And pickled onion Monster Munch. And Masterchef.
Most of the things I miss are food related.
I'm curious, what do you reckon you'd you miss if you moved to New York?

I liked seeing Liesel\'s pceeprstive because everything I read about this subject before was from a Jewish person or American soldier\'s pceeprstive. It is interesting to see how kids grow up to form opinions and how people can only keep them to themselves so much. Sometimes it is too painful not to be kind! If you like this book, you should read The Red Scarf Girl too. It deals with similar issues for a girl coming of age in communist China who is torn between the values of her family and the values she is learning in school and society. This book also reminded me of Skellig in a way because I kept thinking that Max was like the weird, magical man who the kids found in the shed. If they do make it a movie, I hope that Jean-Pierre Jeunet directs it and it looks something like City of the Lost Children !August 26th, 2009 by Victoria

A great book.Was reading it till 2 this morning - even tho I had to be up at 5!Hope to go to NY next year sometime so thanks for hotel ideas.

I love love love this book!! As someone who usually just reads history related novels I was not expecting to fall so massively in love with this book. I read it during a weekend break to Paris and instead of taking in all the sights, I just wanted to curl up with my book and take me back to Angela's amazing adventure in New York!I have always wanted to live in New York and I think this book might finally have been the inspiration I needed. I'm currently living and working as a midwife in Hong Kong and I am having the time of my life! Yes its scary to leave everyone behind and I miss my family and friends in the UK like crazy, but life is one big adventure and I intend to make the most of it!
Can't wait for the next book!
P.S. Can you please write I heart Hong Kong next, I know Angela would love it!!!

I absolutely loved the book. i've just gotten back from majorca where i found the book lying in the reception desk of my hotel. it only took me a day to read by the beach cause i couldn't put t down.i cant wait for the next book now. i'm hooked lol. i'm going to newyork for the first time in october and cant wait now i've read the book. question though, where can i find my very own alex he sounds so perfect ....will just have to keep my eyes open for one. i would love to just up and move to newyork. i dont know what i would miss probably just my family lol. :) xxxAugust 18th, 2009 by another women in distress
my heart to, dont do tv all week but so love come dine with me, only time i hit the sofa, would be sadly missed but small sacrifice for life in new york lol sure i good overcome the grieving with a little distraction !!!So love you life, any chance of a swop

Aw it is 1 of my dreams to live in New York for a couple of years. I know I would miss my family loads and also my friends. However it's something I really want to do (I'm not sure how though). Someone told me that being scared of something can make you miss out on so many fab opportunities so just gota have the confidence to do it. Really hope I do it one day, I really do heart New York!! Apart from missing my family I would also miss going to a football match with my dad. Luving the book btw. Looking forward to reading I heart Hollywood, somewhere I'd like to visit.Well Done on your fab book.
