GET A CAR AND WEAR SUNSCREEN
December 22nd, 2009 by Angela
First things first, as a born-again New Yorker, I was most upset to realise that if you're going to be in LA for any length of time, you absolutely, one hundred per cent need a car. Preferably a very cool convertible, although a less sexy hybrid will score you more eco-points if you bump into Leo DiCaprio. It goes completely against the grain but you'll struggle if you're relying on public transport, pay through the nose if you want to take taxis and never leave your hotel if you're planning on walking everywhere. Bear in mind that people drive like crazies in LA and, while it's obviously
incredibly illegal, a lot of people drive drunk, so just be really, really careful, especially at night.

Book ahead online to get the best deals. You can pick up hire cars at various places around the city and at some hotels if you don't fancy hitting the highway straight off the plane. Just be brave and as ballsy as you can be. Double points if you can text, drink coffee and swear at the car next to you all at the same time by the end of your holiday...

My other piece of advice is to wear SUNSCREEN. I'm not a massive sun worshipper at the best of times and I basically had to baste myself from head to toe every time I went outside. In March. Take a bottle of factor 40, buy more while you’re there.
