If you're looking for somewhere central, The Renaissance is perfect. The rooms are clean and spacious, there's a rooftop pool with a view of the Hollywood sign, there are giant elephant statues (no, really) and, most exciting of all, it's part of the Hollywood and Highland complex – a mini-mall with some great shops and yummy restaurants. Everyone loves a W and this bad boy is all beautiful little-bungalow-style suites. Gorgeous.

The beds are insanely comfortable, every last aspect of the place is flawlessly designed and the staff are ridiculously helpful.

Obviously this all comes at a price but you're in LA, right? It's probably a price worth paying....more

This is a genuine piece of old Hollywood history. The first-ever Academy Awards ceremony was even held here and the outdoor pool features an underwater mural by David Hockney – oooh.
